Introduction. After the Roman army left, Britain entered a time that has been called The Dark Ages because very little is known about it. The Romans had kept good written records, but the people of the Dark Ages hardly kept any.
We know that people called Angles, Saxons and Jutes, from the part of Europe which is now Holland and Germany, came here and brought new customs and styles of art with them.
Vikings started raiding coastal villages just before 800 AD and eventually they ruled the entire country.
